What an inspiring evening last night was with some amazing young professionals talking about #WeTookTheRisk! Two years after publishing the book with New Degree Press, I’m so grateful it’s continuing to make an impact.
\Thanks to the over 120 interested colleagues who RSVPed and the 70+ who made it to the Renewable Energy Alliance – Houston Young Professionals program last night at the Ion Houston! From those who read the book and quoted their favorite takeaways and chapters to me, to the first 15 guests last night who showed up to get the newest edition, thank you for the honor of being on this career journey with you!
Two takeaways that came from the conversations we had on site with these inspiring young professionals:
👉🏼 Keep focused on a path forward with your career, filled with check-in milestones – and always strengthening your skillsets – but never be afraid to pivot. No job path is linear. Be a risktaker!
👉🏼 Just as important as your renewables journey is, so is who you invite to join you on it. Networking starts day one as an intern or young professional and continues throughout your whole career, straight through to being a CEO. We all need to constantly expand our networks and learn from each other -that is the beauty of the renewables industry.

Tom continues to work with college & university, affinity and corporate SynERGy groups, as well as educational non-profits across the industry, to empower those currently are in – as well as those looking to enter – the greater renewable energy industry.
The next event Tom and We Took the Risk will be at is the WRISE Reception being hosted at RE+ in Anaheim, where Tom will be doing his annual book presentation to the new 2024 WRISE & Grid-Alternatives Solar Fellows.
