Heading into the office on this rainy morning to great news that #WeTookTheRisk is ranked the #1 new release on Audible for renewable energy!
I was excited to launch the audiobook alongside my publisher, New Degree Press earlier this week. In addition to this incredible milestone, the book also hit sales of over 4,500 copies and growing.
I’ll be honest – when my publisher approached me about doing an audiobook, I was hesitant. Who would want to listen to me for over 7 hours? Why would they listen? To my surprise, many of my co-workers and industry mentors challenged me to do it, utilizing the opportunity to learn about myself, find my voice in the industry, and help spark passion in the careers of many looking to get into renewables. I was challenged with a mission – how could I say no?
The audiobook journey took over 58 hours of work over many weekends this last Spring, and over 50 hours hours of tireless efforts from my Audiobook editor, Stephanie McKibben, and her audiotech team. I also am grateful to my voice coach (yes, they have voice coaches to narrate books) who patiently coached me on the distinction between speaking in public versus recording a narration. Looking back, it was a herculin effort that challenged me as someone who is normally very confident speaking in front of an audience. Curious to know what I learned? Reaching the #1 ranking on Audible for renewable energy was an aspirational goal I set when I first started my recording journey, but I honestly had doubts on whether my narrating and my voice would get the book there.
